Port Angeles High School seniors named Commended Students in 2018 National Merit Scholarship ProgramPort Angeles, WA — Port Angeles High School Principal Jeff Clark announced today that Roughrider seniors Lauren Rankin and Milo Atwater have been named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, has been presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Port Angeles High School Principal Jeff Clark said, “Lauren and Milo are two of our academic all-stars, and are standout musicians in the orchestra program as well.”

“I highly recommend that all juniors take the PSAT exam. At only $15, it’s an inexpensive way to practice for the SAT college entrance exam,” Clark continued.  “Students receive feedback that can help them do well on the SAT college entrance exam.”

This year’s PSAT exam will be administered at Port Angeles High School on Wednesday, October 11, and is open to all students, although only juniors (11th graders) are eligible to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
